Titleist Pro V1 vs Pro V1x — Which Used Golf Ball Is Right for You?

If you've ever stood in front of a box of used Titleist golf balls wondering whether to go for the Pro V1 or the Pro V1x, you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions we hear at Foreshank — and the answer genuinely depends on your game.

Both balls are tour-proven, both deliver exceptional distance and control, and both are available in graded used condition so you can play a premium ball without the premium price tag. But they're not the same ball. Here's what you need to know.

The Key Difference: Flight and Feel

The simplest way to think about it: the Pro V1 flies lower and feels softer, while the Pro V1x flies higher and feels firmer.

Titleist engineered them for different swing profiles. The Pro V1 has a three-piece construction and a softer urethane cover, producing a penetrating ball flight with a soft feel off the putter and irons. The Pro V1x is a four-piece ball with a firmer feel, a higher trajectory, and more spin on approach shots — particularly useful if you have a steeper angle of attack or generate high swing speed.

Which Ball Suits Your Game?

Choose the Pro V1 if you:

  • Prefer a softer feel around the greens
  • Play a draw or mid-ball flight naturally
  • Have a swing speed under 105mph
  • Want less spin off the driver for more distance

Choose the Pro V1x if you:

  • Like a firmer, more responsive feel
  • Play a fade or high ball flight
  • Have a swing speed above 105mph
  • Want more stopping power on approach shots

Why Buy Used?

A sleeve of new Pro V1s will set you back around £15. A dozen graded used Pro V1s from Foreshank costs a fraction of that — and at Grade A or B condition, the performance difference is negligible for the vast majority of club golfers.

Our grading system ensures you know exactly what you're getting:

  • Grade A — Near mint condition. Minimal play wear, no logo or personalisation.
  • Grade B — Light wear. Small scuffs or fading but no cuts or damage affecting play.
  • Grade C — Visible wear. Great for practice rounds or range work.

If you're playing competitive golf or taking your game seriously, we'd always recommend Grade A or B. For practice and casual rounds, Grade C is excellent value.
